Biography

Mr. Ali Waheed took charge of the atoll administration on November 3, 1977. This was a time when the Maldives' islands faced significant challenges in development and administrative management.

During Ali Waheed's tenure as an atoll administrator, the main responsibilities were primarily focused on managing land and road-related matters. Given the system of the time, many decisions and implementations were made at the island office level. Therefore, while relatively limited compared to today's responsibilities, he played a crucial role in coordinating the island's administration.

The biggest challenge during Ali Waheed's period was having to dismiss staff due to budget constraints for salaries. On November 12, 1976, he had to dismiss the island office's clerks. Consequently, the tasks previously performed by clerks had to be carried out by island leaders.

This impacted the services to be provided to citizens, and island leaders repeatedly submitted complaints to the atoll administrator.

However, due to the economic situation at the time, a permanent solution was not found even by the end of Ali Waheed's tenure.

Amidst administrative difficulties, Ali Waheed worked to resolve the space constraints of the island office. He expanded the office building and facilitated a better work environment.

Additionally, a notable historical event during his tenure was the deportation of the former Maldivian Prime Minister Ahmed Zaki to Fuvahmulah. Ali Waheed was removed from atoll administration on February 8, 1978.
