Biography

Mr. Hasan Adam Maniku arrived in Fuvahmulah on 6 June 1958. And he officially took over the responsibility of the atoll administration on 7 June 1958.

Also known as "Sikundi Hasan Maniku", Hasan Adam Maniku was a person with special skills in the administrative management of the Maldives. In the first few days of taking over the atoll administration, Hasan Adam Maniku prioritized bringing administrative rigor to the office. He reviewed the office's document system, identified administrative shortcomings, and paid special attention to making necessary reforms. From the studies he conducted, the most important finding was that the office's daily journal was not being written. To rectify this, on 20 June 1958, he introduced the system of journal writing, designated special staff, and started the work of office journaling.

One notable event during Hasan Adam Maniku's tenure was the first protest in the island's history. This historic event occurred on Thursday, 29 May 1959 at 9:30 in the morning. The origin of this protest was when a Beeva (a person managing the affairs of an area) from Malegan area was transferred to another area, causing many residents of Malegan area to gather at the atoll house, expressing dissatisfaction and calling for the removal of this Beeva from their area.

Mr. Hasan Adam Maniku's tenure was a short period. He served in the position of Fuvahmulah's atoll administration for 10 months and 14 days. That is, from 11 March 1958 to 25 January 1959.
