UNICEF and Fuvahmulah City Council held an important meeting to consult on children's rights and various issues facing these children. At this meeting, the UNICEF office was represented by Dr. Edward Adi, who is the Resident Representative of UNICEF in the Maldives.
Speaking at this meeting, Dr. Edward Adi said that this visit is an ongoing effort to consult with the Council in an open sphere regarding children's rights and the challenges facing these children. In particular, views and discussions were exchanged at this meeting regarding the main challenges facing children and youth and the opportunities available to these children.
Child protection and providing second chances
From this meeting, the views and consultations of Councilors were obtained regarding the importance of child protection and providing basic rights to these children. Acknowledging that every child is a child who can make mistakes, both the City Council and UNICEF recognize that it is necessary to provide such children with a second chance from within society.
As a result of this meeting, efforts will be made by the Council and UNICEF together to advance the future of children and to find solutions to the social problems facing these children.
