16th National Junior Athletics Championship 2025 Commences

The 16th National Junior Athletics Championship 2025 began yesterday morning at the Fuvahmulah City Stadium. The opening ceremony was held last night.

This year's championship features 681 athletes from 16 schools and 9 clubs. Running from today until the 14th of this month at Fuvahmulah City Stadium, the competition will involve male and female athletes competing in a total of 4 age categories: under 13, under 15, under 17, and under 20 years. Athletes will compete in a total of 113 events, including track and field disciplines.

The opening ceremony was honored by Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq. The event was attended by the Deputy President of the Athletics Association, Ahmed Azeel, school principals, team managers, and representatives from various city institutions and the general public. Additionally, the ceremony included lighting the tournament's torch and athletes taking their oath.

This year's sponsors include the Ministry of Sports and Health, Fuvahmulah City Women's Development Committee, Nestlé Milo, Dhiraagu, and Print Lab.

A warm welcome was extended to all participating athletes arriving in Fuvahmulah, and they were presented with championship merchandise kits. Furthermore, Mayor Ismail Rafeeq visited 5 local schools, met with athletes, provided encouragement, and distributed merchandise kits. The championship results will be announced at the closing ceremony on the evening of the 14th at Fuvahmulah City Stadium.
