Fuvahmulah City Council has launched the app "AfunCity". This is an app developed to improve the provision of public services, increase citizen participation, and enhance transparency. The application is currently available on iOS and Android platforms. It is a central digital system that makes it easier for citizens to access City Council services and information related to the city in a timely manner. This is the first app developed by the Council in this manner.
"AfunCity" is an important step towards digitizing Maldives' decentralized system. This application is a project that provides many services needed by citizens under one platform, improving service quality and ease of access. One of the most important aspects of this application is an interactive map that includes more than 3,700 locations. These include government buildings, markets, mosques, and public service facilities. This system has been designed using the latest technology, allowing users to easily search for locations in real-time, get directions, and use maps. This platform has been further enhanced by being linked to the national digital identity system "eFaas". Because of this, information security is ensured, and while services are easily accessible, some services can be used by guest users without logging in. Additionally, this includes a system to view real-time information about ferry schedules between Fuvahmulah and Malé, so that residents and travelers can see updated schedules and ferry conditions. To meet the public's needs, the app includes information about prayer times, holiday calendars, mosque information, and a feature to find the nearest mosque. Through "IQU AI", real-time water quality monitoring and health guidance can be received, which can help people be aware of conditions in their local area.
One of the important features of this application is the complaint registration system. Through the app, issues related to public services can be directly submitted to the Council. Since the system allows tracking of complaint progress, the Council's accountability has increased. Additionally, through the "AfunAdo" module, citizens have the opportunity to submit suggestions, consult, and participate in voting on certain matters. By being linked to the "VanGaVun" service, citizens can request certain government services and track their progress. Furthermore, announcements, Council decisions, financial reports, and audit reports being visible on this platform increases the institution's transparency and public trust.
Furthermore, news, event information, job opportunities, and live feeds from cameras installed in certain areas of the city have a significant role in disseminating information and improving community engagement.
The launch of "AfunCity" is a step taken by Fuvahmulah City Council to improve city governance through digital innovations and increase citizen participation.
Under this project, consolidating important services and information into one easy-to-use platform sets an example for developing "Smart Cities" in line with environmental concerns in the country. It also aligns with nationally set goals for digitization and sustainable city management.
